Aloe is a type of plant that has more than 400 hundreds species associated with it. It originates from South Africa and goes back in history more than 5000 years. It is now grown in many places throughout Africa, around the Caribbean, Mediterranean and in South America. This plant has leaves that are used medicinally. The clear gel that oozes out of the middle of a broken leaf is used on many types of wounds and burns. It is also a type of generic tonic. The other liquid from the plant is a bitter latex known as aloe vera juice and it acts as a laxative but can be very irritative to the stomach.

Echinacea is a preventative type of herb that is used by herbalists and is recommended to purify blood, which makes it a type of antibiotic. It is very good for fighting infections and helps the immune system, as it is a stimulant to increase the production of infection fighting cells. It makes the blood stronger and prevents attacks from bad germs. There are nine different species of Echinacea but only three are used for medicinal purposes. It has a very complex chemical make up and not one ingredient has been identified for therapeutic activity. It is only necessary to take Echinacea when needed and not on a regular basis. Although it boosts he immune system, it may lessen the effect of other parts of the process.

Fo-Ti is a type of healing herb that has origins in China. It also is grown is Japan and Taiwan. It produces a type of tonic that is said to prevent your hair from turning grey. It also is known as an aphrodisiac. It has been used in the past to help with premature ageing, vaginal discharge, angina pectoris, impotence and weakness. The active ingredients have not been specified yet but the whole root is said to lower cholesterol levels by making the arteries softer. The roots are also said to have a part in the immune system helping formation of the red blood cells and can act as an antibacterial chemical for fighting disease.

The marshmallow plant grows in wet areas of the world, particularly in marshes. It originates in Europe and the roots and leaves are used for medical purposes. It has connections with helping asthma, common cold, diarrhea, indigestion and cough. It is particularly effective against coughs and colds. It has high mucilage content and soothes mucous membranes that have been inflamed. It can be used to sooth chapped skin, minor wounds and chilblains. It primarily consists of carbohydrate molecules and the smooth substance that it produces has soothing effects against irritating mucous membranes. It has also been used against bad conditions of respiratory and digestive tracts. It has been recommended to take regularly, daily if possible and it can be taken as a hot or cold tea.

Spearmint is a type of remedy for indigestion and gas. It is a member of the mint family and can be used as a bath additive, washing agent, bee and wasp stings and gargling. It contains an essential oil used in such things as aromatherapy and cooking. It has antifungal and antiviral aspects that help with preventing and curing diseases and illnesses. The oil is extracted through distillation and is also used as a flavoring agent for toothpaste and chewing gum as it gives a fresh feel to the mouth. More research is needed to define the specific ingredients and effects it can have on people. Very few allergies exist to spearmint and it appears to be safe.
